Hello again folks. For this post, instead of showing off some outfit or character I have created, I decided instead to try and give a little inspiration. As I have said before, when coming up with a fantasy outfit, I really like to mod it and give it quite a unique look. It also thoroughly impresses me when I stumble upon another person who let their creativity run wild and creates a wonderful look from various parts as well. That is what I would like this post to be. This post will be the first in a series I will create where I will go in depth into the items and types of modifications I do in order to come up with the unique looks that I do, and would hope it would inspire others to try and let their imaginations run wild. I’m not saying the designs that many store owners have isn’t good, hell, for the most part they are awesome, but when it comes to walking around in an outfit, I’m like a girl. I’m all, “ahh hell naw I know she ain’t where the same shirt I am!” Whenever a new armor comes out, you’ll typically see at least a handful of people walking around in all the same stuff. Albeit, it looks good, but it loses its originality. Just taking a few minutes out of your life and adding parts from other things you may have, you can spice it up and make it more you. Alot of people get intimidated thinking it’s a hard thing to do, but it’s just like anything else, it just needs practice. Just break shit apart and put it back together again, see what happens. There’s been a handful of times I’ve mistakenly altered something and incoincidentally it made it look better than my original idea. This part being the first part in my series I am going to try and keep it simple, these are two weapons I created for a character I have by the name of Titan on the fantasy RP sim, Realm of Mystara. I am still learning the ropes to fantasy roleplaying, but it is a very well made sim and very fun people to meet so if fantasy is your thing you should check it out. I will be posting a picture of him later on, but his basic look is a sort of gladiator type. For that I wanted to create him a nice looking spear, the bottom one in the above picture. In the picture below you can see the two items I used to create it.
The first sword in the picture is the SOLDIER sword from 1st Act. It was a freebie they kept in their store for a long time, I haven’t seen it the last few times I have been there, but the layout of the store has changed so it may just be hiding somewhere. The second sword in the picture was a hunt item from Chrysallis Labs. They have since changed their name to Virtual Forge, still cranking out awesome armors and weapons in their mainstore. The mods to create this spear weren’t all that complicated. I took the handle of the first one, copied it a few times to create the longer spear version, and shortened the width of the blade. I then took the golden pointy part about midway along the second sword, as well as the red spikey parts to the left of it, recolored them and removed the glow. Copied them and placed them about the bottom of the blade and guard and mirrored it for the other side. I then took the spikes of the bottom of the sword and added them to the bottom of the spear and tada, that’s that. Like I said, a rather easy mod. The next one was a bit more complicated.
The idea behind the black and red one was inspired by an event on the Mystara sim. There was going to be a tournament hosted by the merfolk of the sim, so it put the idea in my head that coming up with some sort of trident would be fun to tackle. So I started with my already made spear and removed the blade. I then took spiked extrusions from the bracer seen above. The bracer and the black scale looking thing are from the store LostHaven, yet another awesome fantasy store that you should definitely check out, and it is a part of their Sith Lord outfit. With the spikes I reworked the shape a few times, copied them then made the various blades as seen in the picture. I then widened the blade guard, and recolored the rest of the spear a reddish hue to give it an exotic look. Remember when I said sometimes doing things on accident has awesome results? Well the speckled red pattern on the hilt is actually caused by lag when I was recoloring it, causing some parts to accidentally stay one hue while the others changed the way I wanted, but i think the accident gave it a more scaly look and decided to leave it as it was. I then took the hand part of the Sith Lord outfit, copied it a few times and lined them up and placed them on the spot where the hilt meets the blade guard for an even more scaly appeal and boom, you have yourself an awesome trident. And for any of you Metalocalypse fans out there, I jokingly named the trident, Murmaider. Well, if you read all the way to the end of this, I hope you are somewhat inspired to go out there and start working on your own creations. In the future, I plan to make videos of my other modifications so you can see first hand how it’s done, and not have to read a ginormous wall of text.
